In 'Theme with Variations' composed in 1996 Tatyana Komarova uses a simple cantabile 11-bar theme alternating between 2/4 and 3/4 time. The seven variations are of different length, ranging between 8 and 37 bars, and of different character; the cycle moves from a peacefully flowing variation via partly dance-like, partly extremely virtuoso variations to the meditative final section which recalls the mood of the theme like an echo. Despite the impression of individuality of the variations, the sound material of the theme is used in each of these variations with almost serial strictness.

Dans cette composition de 1996, Tatjana Komarova utilise un thème propre, chant simple de 11 mesures qui varie entre 2/4 et 3/4. Les sept variations qui font suite sont de différente durée (entre 8 et 37 mesures) et de caractère des plus divers; d'une variation tranquillement fluide, le cycle entraîne l'auditeur vers des variations en partie dansantes, en partie extrêmement virtuoses jusqu'à la variation finale, profondément méditative qui, tel un écho, remet en mémoire l' atmosphère du thème. Malgré l' impression de variations de caractère, l'emploi du matériel sonore du thème est, dans chacune des variations, d'une rigueur sérielle.
