Written when the composer was just 17 to 18 years of age, these romantic-styled pieces for piano trio were dedicated to 3 friends, Natalya, Lyudmila, and Vera Skalon. They feature a short passage that would later be used in Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto, beginning the 2nd movement.
