Scherzo Symphonique

Scherzo Symphonique Robert Schumann / Arr. Willy Hautvast

Robert Schumann became municipal director of the music school in Düsseldorf am Rhein in 1850. The impression of the Rheinland inspired him to compose his 3rd Symphony, that is also known as the Rheinische Symphony. The second part is a scherzo in a very moderate tempo and composed in the Ländler-rhythm. The theme starts in the lower range and is followed by arabesque variations in the woodwind section. The theme is reprised in varied forms. A nice and varied piece for wind bands.
