Dschinghis Khan is a German pop group produced by Ralph Siegel from 1979 to 1985. Their biggest hits were in 1979 with the songs Dschinghis Khan and Moscow which were also internationally successful. On December 17 2005 a comeback took place at the Moscow Olimpijski Arena organized by the radio station Retro FM at a concert in front of 60,000 spectators. Since then the group has been active again albeit sometimes with a changed lineup.

The group became famous with the title Dschinghis Khan with which they took fourth place at the Eurovision Song Contest 1979. For this event the group was assembled by the German music producer Ralph Siegel. After the huge success the title Dschinghis Khan was number 1 on the German Media Control Charts for four weeks further hits followed (Moscow, Rocking Son of Dschinghis Khan, Der Verräter) most of which also had parallel English versions produced. For their exceptional choreography and stage presence the band received the television award Bambi in 1980. Besides Germany Dschinghis Khan were particularly successful in the Soviet Union Japan Australia and Israel where they are the only German artists so far to have reached number one on the charts. The group also appeared in the film Sunnyboy und Sugarbaby. After further singles such as Hadschi Halef Omar, Rom, Pistolero or Loreley were still able to place successfully in the charts the group underwent an image change and Siegel produced lighter sometimes even folk music like Der Dudelmoser with them. The successes then ceased. A medley of well-known hits one of the greatest discoveries of Ralph Siegel from the disco era Dschinghis Khan arranged by Manfred Schneider.
