Intermezzo "Il Sogno" Pietro Mascagni / Arr. Wil van der Beek
Pietro Mascagni (Livorno, 1863 - Rome, 1945) became famous overnight in 1890 after the premiere of his first opera, Cavalleria Rusticana. Of his later operas, only L'Amico Fritz and Iris were successful. Nevertheless, various arias and intermezzos by Mascagni are still part of today's concert repertoire. The intermezzo Il Sogno (The Dream), beautifully arranged for wind orchestra by Wil van Beek, is a fine example.
