Nusch-Nuschi (the Mumble Wumble) is one of three one-act operas with provocative librettos by the young Hindemith which caused outrage; the other two are Saint Susanna and The murderer who brings hope to women. In the case of Nusch-Nuschi, further indignation was caused by the inclusion at a suggestive point of a quotation from Wagner's Tristan. In this volume of the complete works the composition is now available for purchase for the first time.
