Otto M. Schwarz was asked by a friend to compose a chorale for the funeral of his child. Lux Aeterna (The Eternal Light) is actually part of the requiem mass, but in this composition, there is no reference to the original Latin text. People who recount near-death experiences often report a bright light. The music moves back and forth between passages that are sad, optimistic, and imploring in nature, posing questions that cannot be answered. The end of the piece comes, however, with a conciliatory major chord that reflects the calm and warmth of this light that promises redemption.

Un ami a demandé à Otto M. Schwarz de composer un choral pour les funérailles de son enfant. Lux Aeterna (lumière éternelle) est en fait une partie d'un requiem mais dans cette composition il n'y a pas de rapport au texte latin original. Les personnes qui ont vécu des expériences de mort, mentionnent une lumière vive. La musique oscille entre des passages tristes, plein d'espoir et implorants, posant des questions sans réponse. Elle se conclue cependant par un accord majeur apaisé qui reflète le calme et la chaleur de cette lumière laquelle promet le salut.

Een goede vriend van Otto M. Schwarz vroeg hem een koraal te schrijven voor de begrafenis van zijn kind. Lux Aeterna (Het eeuwige Licht) is in feite een deel van de Dodenmis (Requiem) maar staat in deze compositie los van de originele Latijnse tekst. Mensen met een bijna-doodervaring melden vaak dat ze een fel licht zagen. De muziek beweegt tussen droevige, hoopvolle en smekende passages en stelt vragen die niet beantwoord kunnen worden. Toch eindigt het werk met een zalvend majeurakkoord wat de kalmte en warmte weergeeft van het licht dat verlossing brengt.
