The bestselling novel 'Sinuhe the Egyptian' by the Finnish writer Mika Waltari was the source of inspiration for the Finnish pianist, composer and conductor Olli Mustonen. In this piece which closely follows the classical sonata form slow-fast-slow, the performer can pull out all the stops. Not without good reason is 'Sinuhe' a compulsory piece of this year's ARD Competition. Experimental playing techniques are nowhere to be found; instead, this piece calls for virtuosity and tonal culture in the traditional sense of the word from the performer which never fail to work with the audience.

Le best-seller "Sinouhé l'Egyptien" de l'écrivain finlandais Mika Waltari fut la source d'inspiration du pianiste, compositeur et chef d'orchestre finlandais Olli Mustonen. Cette pièce, qui suit fidèlement la forme classique de la sonate lent-rapide-lent, permet à l'interprète de déployer tout son art. Ce n'est pas sans raison que "Sinouhé" a fait partie des morceaux imposés au Concours ARD de cette année. On y cherche en vain des techniques expérimentales de jeu ; il est demandé en revanche à l'interprète virtuosité et raffinement du timbre dans le sens traditionnel du terme, qualités qui ne manquent jamais leur effet sur le public.
