"A transcription justifies itself only by forgetting that it is a transcription and by incorporating the 'new' instrument into the work, as it were," Jean Guillou writes in the preface to this edition. Especially transcribing a work for organ which was originally written for piano possesses a certain risk. Such a transcription should not sound like a piano score played on the organ. Rather, the specific possibilities offered by the organ have to be considered. That is why typically pianistic passages have to be rewritten to get an "organistic" character. Jean Guillou has masterfully succeeded in turning this great piano and orchestral work into a work for organ.

" Une transcription ne se justifie que pour autant qu'elle fera oublier qu' elle est une transcription et que le nouvel instrument fera corps avec l'oeuvre ", écrit Jean Guillou en avant-propos. En particulier, la transcription pour orgue d'une oeuvre dont l'original est pour piano présente un danger. Une transcription de cette sorte ne doit pas sonner comme une partition de piano jouée à l'orgue. De surcroît, les possibilités spécifiques de l'orgue doivent être prises en compte. Cela a conduit à récrire les passages spécifiquement pianistiques pour leur donner un format " organistique ". Jean Guillou a réussi magistralement à transformer cette grande oeuvre en oeuvre d'orgue, au même titre qu'elle est une oeuvre pour piano et une oeuvre d'orchestre.
