Kurt Bikkembergs (*1963) studied composition and conducting at the renowned Lemmens Institute in Leuven. At present, he is the choir director of the Vlaamse Opera and musical director of the Cathedral in Brussels. He writes about his work: 'Young people need music, contemporary music, to express their own attitude towards life. "Psalmi novi" tries to help to achieve that by means of - new interpretations and translations from the old bible, - expressive rhythms, modern harmonies and speech-song techniques, - the use of lips, also for whistling, as well as of hands and feet, - the use of simple "special instruments" such as tambourine and kazoos.' The world premiere took place this August as part of the international choral festival 'Europa Cantat' in Mainz. A very effective cycle the parts of which can also be performed separately at concerts or church service.

5. Psalm 135: Sing Alleluia's Sing Praise

Kurt Bikkembergs (*1963) étudia la composition et la direction à l'Institut Lemmens de Louvain. Il est aujourd'hui directeur de choeur de l'Opéra flamand et directeur musical de la cathédrale de Bruxelles. De son travail, il écrit : "Les jeunes ont besoin de musique et de musique actuelle afin d'exprimer leur propre attitude envers la vie. Les "Psalmi novi" s'y essaient, à l'aide de nouvelles interprétations et traductions de la Bible, de rythmes expressifs, d'harmonies nouvelles, de parlé-chanté, de l'usage des lèvres - pour siffler -, des mains et des pieds. Ils emploient aussi de petits instruments tels que le tambourin ou le kazoo." La première mondiale a eu lieu, en août 2006, dans le cadre du festival international "Europa Cantat" à Mayence. Chacune des parties de ce cycle peut être interprétée séparément, à l'église ou en salle de concert.
