Penderecki has already added a cadenza to Haydn's Trumpet Concerto to our successful Cadenza series. What was so special about it was the use of the two orchestra horns in the trumpet cadenzas. With Bach too, Penderecki proved to be inventive: instead of the usual cadencing between the two movements with violin or harpsichord, the principal viola plays an adagio in Baroque melismata and expressive arpeggios, accompanied by the continuo section with a chromatically descending bass reminiscent of a lament.

Penderecki a déjà participé à notre série "Cadenza" avec une cadence du Concerto pour trompette de Haydn. La particularité en était l'utilisation des deux cors de l'orchestre dans les cadences de la trompette. Avec Bach aussi, il démontre son inventivité : l'original ne contient que deux accords, et, à la place des cadences habituelles entre les deux mouvements avec violon ou clavecin, le premier alto joue un adagio composé de mélismes baroques et d'arpèges expressifs, accompagné du groupe de continuo avec une basse chromatique descendante qui rappelle un lamento.
