Piccolo Espangnol was composed as a show piece for Piccolo and to give the mature soloist a chance to perform in all ranges of the instrument. The opening slow section portays a Spanish Mission and is restful and relaxed. Then the piece goes into a fast 3/8 tempo and portays Flamengo dancers and bull fights, and calls for a very colorful and flamboyant style.
