Comme Alban Berg - dont les "Sieben frühe Lieder" sont musicalement reconnaissables - Heinz Holliger a, après des années, retrouvé des mélodies de jeunesse passablement exaltées, les a un peu révisées et les a orchestrées. En dehors de l'utilisation comme piano-chant, la destination première dans cette édition demeure cependant perceptible: un élément de plus dans la grande tradition du lied allemand.
