As early as 1932, Harry Partch composed Psalm 23 for Voice and Adapted Viola. Together with Psalm, 137 By the Rivers of Babylon, the Two Psalms arose. Both settings were performed with other early compositions several times with great success, although Partch was only at the beginning of his career. Almost ten years later he re-set the Adapted Viola part for his newly developed Chromelodeon and added a part for the Kithara.

Dès 1932, Harry Partch composa Psalm 23 pour violon et Alto adapté; avec le psaume 137, By the Rivers of Babylon, il fit Two Psalms. Les deux adaptations musicales étaient représentées avec d'autres de ses premières compositions plusieurs fois avec grand succès bien que Partch ne fût qu'au début de sa carrière. Presque dix ans plus tard, il transcrivit la partie de l'Alto adapté pour son nouveau chromolodéon et ajouta une partie pour la cithare.
