Songs of Liberation was written to commemorate the liberation of the Netherlands 70 years ago commissioned by the KMK/JWF under the direction of Major Tijmen Botma. The piece consists of three Valerian songs, dating from the 16th century. The piece depicts the resistance against the Spanish Ruler. The Cantata begins with dark and sombre undertones symbolising oppression but then allowing the Finale to shine with the liberation of light, and then Gelukkig Is Het Land (The Happy Country) brings the piece to a rousing finish.

Songs of Liberation était écrit en 2015 à l'occasion de la 70ième anniversaire de la libération des Pays-Bas. La trame est formée par trois chansons du 16e siècle sur la résistance contre l'Espagne. Songs of Liberation était écrit à la commande du KMK/JWF (Fanfare Royale Militaire Johan Willem Friso) sous la direction du Major Tijmen Botma.

Songs of Liberation werd geschreven ter gelegenheid van de bevrijding van Nederland 70 jaar geleden in opdracht van de KMK/JWF onder leiding van Majoor Tijmen Botma. Het raamwerk wordt gevormd door drie Valeriusliederen, daterend uit de 16e eeuw. Hierin wordt het verzet tegen de Spaanse overheerser geschilderd. De Cantate start met donkere klanken, als symbool van onderdrukking, om in de finale plaats te maken voor de bevrijding van het licht, waar het met Gelukkig Is Het Land groots eindigt.
