György Ligeti composed one single opera, 'Le Grand Macabre'. The conductor of the world premiere, Elgar Howarth, took three arias which, due to their effusiveness, are highlights of the opera, and arranged them as a single piece for solo trumpet or coloratura soprano and two different accompaniments: with piano and with instrumental ensemble. Together with the present study score of the orchestral version three editions are now available for sale. They provide the inquisitive with an insight 'en miniature' into one of the strangest operas of the 20th century while each one of them is a brilliant concert piece on its own.

György Ligeti ne composa qu'un seul opéra, "Le Grand Macabre". Le chef d'orchestre de la première mondiale, Elgar Howarth, en choisit trois airs qui, en raison de leur exaltation, appartiennent aux points culminants de l'oeuvre et en fit une réalisation pour trompette seule ou soprano colorature et deux accompagnements différents : avec piano ou ensemble instrumental. Avec la présente partition d'étude de la version pour orchestre, les trois éditions sont maintenant disponibles à la vente. Ces oeuvres offrent à l'amateur un apercu "en miniature" de l'un des opéras les plus curieux du XXe siècle tout en étant par elles-même de brillantes pièces de concert.
