The work "Fragments" is an extremely powerful and energetic Concertino for trombone, full of different tonal colours and based on two motifs that are broken down into their fragments and processed further. The slightly playful main motif is presented by the soloist after an imposing introduction and gradually develops jazzy elements without abandoning the contemporary spirit. Throughout the work, the last three notes of the introductory motif are presented both as a short, shrill fragment and as a lyrical theme, which supports the constant alternation between leggero and marcato. An ostinato, which is carried through all registers, gives the work the necessary drift and serves as a common thread to connect the different parts.
"Fragments" was commissioned by the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the "De klenge Maarnicher Festival" and was a compulsory piece for the final round of the "1st Michel Becquet International Trombone Competition.

L'uvre "Fragments" est un Concertino pour trombone extrêmement puissant et énergique, plein de couleurs tonales différentes et basé sur deux motifs qui sont décomposés en fragments et traités ultérieurement. Le motif principal, légèrement enjoué, est présenté par le soliste après une introduction imposante et développe progressivement des éléments jazzy sans abandonner l'esprit contemporain. Tout au long de l'uvre, les trois dernières notes du motif introductif sont présentées à la fois comme un court fragment strident et comme un thème lyrique, qui soutient l'alternance constante entre leggero et marcato. Un ostinato, qui traverse tous les registres, confère à l'uvre la dérive nécessaire et sert de fil conducteur pour relier les différentes parties.
"Fragments" est une commande du Ministère de la Culture luxembourgeois en collaboration avec le "De klenge Maarnicher Festival" et une pièce imposée pour la finale du "1er Concours International de Trombone Michel Becquet.

Het werk "Fragments" is een uiterst krachtig en energiek Concertino voor trombone, vol verschillende klankkleuren en gebaseerd op twee motieven die worden opgesplitst in hun fragmenten en verder verwerkt. Het licht speelse hoofdmotief wordt na een imposante inleiding door de solist gepresenteerd en ontwikkelt geleidelijk jazzy elementen zonder de eigentijdse geest te verlaten. Gedurende het hele werk worden de laatste drie noten van het inleidende motief gepresenteerd als een kort, schel fragment en als een lyrisch thema, dat de constante afwisseling tussen leggero en marcato ondersteunt. Een ostinato, dat door alle registers wordt gedragen, geeft het werk de nodige stuwing en dient als een rode draad om de verschillende delen met elkaar te verbinden.
"Fragments" werd geschreven in opdracht van het Luxemburgse Ministerie van Cultuur in samenwerking met het "De klenge Maarnicher Festival" en was een verplicht stuk voor de eindronde van de "1st Michel Becquet International Trombone Competition".
