Two of the European Cultural Capitals in 2010 - Istanbul and the Ruhr area - were united in the personality of the composer and pianist Faz?l Say. He lives in Istanbul and had a five-year residence as exclusive artist at the Konzerthaus Dortmund, the largest city in the Ruhr area. This cooperation culminated in the highlight of a concert, the world premiere of Say's Istanbul Symphony in which the composer has created a portrait of the city in seven movements capturing everyday situations and the atmosphere, history and people of this great metropolis.

Les deux capitales européennes de la culture 2010 - Istanbul et le bassin de la Ruhr - étaient, cette année-là, intimement liées au compositeur et pianiste Faz?l Say. Le compositeur originaire d'Istanbul était depuis cinq ans en résidence à la salle de concert de Dortmund, la plus grande ville du bassin de la Ruhr. Cette combinaison a atteint son apogée et sa conclusion lors de la première de l'Istanbul Symphony de Say. Le compositeur développe en sept mouvements un portrait de la ville et capture sa vie de tous les jours, son atmosphère, son histoire et les gens de la métropole.
