The concerto takes the historical figure of the brutal impaler Vlad Tzepesch (1431-1476) as its starting point and subsequently develops the myth into an overwrought and gruesome piece of work: 1: Oderint dum metuant is a raving Allegro with a Baroque ritornello structure and modern Draculisms. 2: Luna su Tirgoviste is a memoriam for the thousands of impaled victims who came to a violent end in today's Târgoviste. 3: Il ballo transilvano confronts a naive waltz rhythm with aggressive polyrhythmic reinterpretations in the manner of the stick and the carrot. 4: Bacio di sangue is Neo-Baroque horror music which has got out of hand, demanding extreme virtuosity from both soloists and ensemble. Ce concerto fait allusion à l'existence historique de Vlad Tzepesch (1431-1476), le cruel empaleur, et surligne le mythe dans son horreur . 1. "Oderint dum metuant" (lat. : "qu'ils me haïssent pourvu qu'ils me craignent") est un allegro sauvage tiré d'une structure en ritournelle baroque accompagnée de "draculismes" modernes. 2. "Luna su Târgovi?te" (roumain : "la lune sur Târgovi?te") évoque la mémoire des milliers de personnes empalées dans la région de la ville moderne de Târgovi?te. 3. "Il ballo transilvano" (ital : "danse de Transylvanie") associe comme le sucre et le fouet une naïve mesure de valse à d'agressives et complexes variations rythmiques. 4. "Bacio di sangue" (ital. : "baiser de sang") est une sorte de fugue néobaroque grelottante qui demande aux solistes comme à l'ensemble un engagement virtuose. Enjott Schneider.
