The evening prayer 'Abends will ich schlafen gehen' is certainly one of the most beautiful and moving pieces in Humperdinck's fairy-tale opera 'Hansel and Gretel'. The British organist Edwin H. Lemare (1865-1934) who was famous for his improvisations and transcriptions wrote an arrangement of this work under the title of 'Angel Scene'. Following closely the original score and skilfully selecting stops, he created a version that still today does not fail to have its desired effect on the audience.

La prière du soir "Abends will ich schlafen gehn" est certainement l'un moments les plus émouvants du conte théâtral de Humperdinck "Hansel et Gretel ". L'organiste anglais Edwin H. Lemare (1865-1934), célèbre pour ses improvisations et ses transcriptions, a écrit un arrangement de l'oeuvre sous le titre de "Scène de l'ange". S'appuyant fidèlement sur la partition originale et en utilisant les registres avec raffinement, il a créé une version qui, aujourd'hui encore, ne manque pas son effet sur l'auditeur.
