The Sonata for Viola and Piano (1984) is not based as is common in the 'classical' sonata form on the dualism of two opposing themes. The dialectics are in the juxtaposition of two homogenous movements of contrasting character. The third movement brings, like a development, the analysis of motifs and structures of the first two movements. 'The Sonata ends with the chorale "Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir" in whose adaptation inner conflict and contrast remain the formative means until the end.' (Pütz) A rewarding contemporary piece for competitions and concerts.
L'expérience de professeur d'Eduard Pütz (1911-2000) l'a conduit à écrire de nombreuses uvres pour l'enseignement. Son désir fut toujours de dépasser les frontières entre la musique dite « sérieuse » et celle dite « légère ». Cette pièce convient aux concours ainsi qu'aux concerts.
