The piano quartet 'Lost traces' is based on the piano trio Distant traces in which the violoncello had been replaced by a viola, a fact that is highly unusual for the genre. Whereas the first version was meant for a concert in Hamburg in memory of his former composition teacher György Ligeti who had died in 2006, the English title of the new version in standard instrumentation may also be meant literally: a distant search for traces and an homage set to music.

Le quatuor avec piano "lost traces" est fondé sur le piano avec trio "distant traces" dans lequel, d'une manière inaccoutumée, le violoncelle est remplacé par un alto. Si la version originale avait été concue à l'occasion d'un concert donné à Hambourg en mémoire de György Ligeti, son ancien professeur de composition disparu en 2006, le titre anglais peut aussi, quant à lui, se référer à la nouvelle version, en formation standard : une lointaine recherche de traces exprimée par la musique, autant qu'un hommage.
