Written by Christian Tetzlaff, one of the most interesting and most versatile violinists of his generation, this cadenza for Beethoven's Violin Concerto for violin and timpanis is published for the first time. There are no cadenzas for this famous violin concerto by the composer himself. Beethoven only wrote cadenzas for the later piano concerto version. As a special feature, he uses the timpani together with the solo instrument. This is an obvious thing to do as they open the work with the simple four-note motif and dominate the entire first movement. The idea to adapt these cadenzas of the piano version to the violin concerto is obvious; Tetzlaff has managed to do that quite impressively. For a better understanding, this edition has been designed as a performing score.

Ecrite par Christian Tetzlaff, un des violonistes les plus intéressants et polyvalents de sa génération, cette cadence pour violon et timbale est publiée pour la première fois. Il n'existe pas de cadence du compositeur pour ce célèbre concerto. C'est seulement pour la version postérieure avec piano que Beethoven en écrivit une. Trait particulier, Tetzlaff utilise avec l'instrument soliste la timbale. Ceci se conçoit aisément car cette dernière débute l'uvre avec un simple motif de quatre tons qui domineront tout le premier mouvement. L'idée d'adapter la cadence du concerto pour piano au concerto pour violon est évidente et Tetzlaff y est parvenu de façon convaincante. Pour une meilleure lecture, les deux parties instrumentales paraissent ici sous forme de partition.
