Even when he was still a young student of composition, Weber considered the preparation of a piano score to be an important task. The high standards he demanded may be one of the reasons why he generally prepared the piano scores of his works himself. In this respect it can be said that Weber played an important part in the development of the modern piano score, as his efforts were focused on producing an independent version of the work in a different medium of sound. He also tried to reproduce the impression of writing for a number of interrelated parts, of changing between instruments or creating particular sound effects.

La réalisation d'une réduction pour piano était déjà l'un des devoirs importants du jeune élève de composition Weber. Cette importance attachée à la qualité est peut-être l'une des raisons pour laquelle il écrivait lui-même les réductions pour piano de ses uvres. De toute manière, Weber joua un rôle important dans l'élaboration de la réduction pour piano moderne; en effet, son objectif était de présenter une version autonome de l'uvre dans un autre média sonore. En outre, il s'efforçait de conserver la ligne des voix, les changements d'instruments ou des effets sonores spécifiques.
