Although Mussorgsky's much-loved Pictures at an Exhibition is often enjoyed in its original solo piano version, it is perhaps best known through its famous orchestration by Maurice Ravel, who masterfully saw the potential for grand orchestral gestures and colour in Mussorgsky's piano writing.
