Ursprünglich komponierte Bert Kaempfert 1965 die Instrumentalmelodie für einen Film namens A Man could get killed, in dem er noch unter einem anderen Titel in der Partitur stand (Beddy Bye). Richtig bekannt wurde Strangers in the Night durch Frank Sinatra, der das Lied 1966 mit einem Text von Charles Singleton und Eddie Snyder einspielte und es zu einem seiner Evergreens wurde.'
