Kleine ungarische Rhapsodie Alfred Bösendorfer
Fiery and melancholic sounds from the Puszta are combined in this rhapsody a great concert piece for intermediate-level wind bands.
A journey to Hungary: Alfred Bösendorfer transports us to the Hungarian Puszta. Instead of using melodies from Hungarian folklore, he composes his own motifs. In character, however, they sound like traditional Magyar tunes. The first and final sections of the rhapsody are set in a minor key. Themes of love and sorrow from Gypsy life emerge: the violins of a village band weep a mournful tune, and a fiery Czárdás can be heard from a tavern. In contrast, Bösendorfer includes a lyrical, romantic middle section that evokes the peace of the Puszta.
