Preludio contains 130 easy attractive performance pieces from six centuries, thus offering the most important pieces for beginners' guitar lessons in one comprehensive volume. The repertoire is ideal for first performances at music schools, as pieces for competitions and examinations or just as a 'treasure trove' for teachers, pupils, students, and guitar lovers. The selected pieces can be played in the second to fourth year of guitar lessons. They are divided chronologically into five chapters and arranged progressively according to their level of difficulty. Each chapter refers to another epoch: Renaissance Baroque Classical period Romanticism and early 20th century modern, pop and world music. The result is a tune book which can already be used during or immediately after studying any guitar method. Most pieces can be played in the 1st and 2nd positions, without requiring any barré fingering or ties and slurs. The somewhat more difficult pieces that require small and large barré fingering as well as position playing are placed at the end of each chapter. The majority of the pieces are original works, and the editors have refrained from making any radical simplifications. Only a few difficult passages have alternatively been made easier to play such that the level of difficulty within a piece does not vary too much.

« Preludio contient 130 pièces simples et attrayantes issues de six siècles de musique, rassemblant ainsi les plus importants morceaux pour débutants en guitare en un seul grand volume. Le répertoire est idéal pour les premières auditions à l'école de musique, les concours et les examens, ou simplement comme trésor pour les professeurs, les élèves, les étudiants et tous les amoureux de la guitare. Ces pièces choisies peuvent être jouées entre la deuxième et la quatrième année d'apprentissage de la guitare. Elles sont ordonnées chronologiquement en cinq chapitres et en ordre de difficulté croissante. Chaque chapitre se rapporte à une époque : Renaissance Baroque Classicisme Romantisme et début XX° siècle musique Moderne, pop et world music. Il en résulte un livre d'airs qui peut être joué pendant ou après l'étude de n'importe quelle méthode de guitare. La plupart des pièces peuvent être jouées en positions une et deux, sans requérir les accords barrés ou les liaisons. Les pièces plus difficiles qui exigent de petits et grands accords barrés et un jeu en position sont placés à la fin du chapitre. La plupart des pièces sont des uvres originales, et les éditeurs ont tenu à n'y apporter aucune simplification radicale. Quelques passages ardus ont été rendu plus simples pour que le niveau de difficulté de la pièce ne varie pas trop. »
