Foster Robert Estill geb. in Raymondville, Texas, 21. Januar 1939. Erabsolvierte 1962 die University of Texas und 1964 die University of Houston, u. a. als Kompositionsschüler von J. Clifton Williams. Seit 1971 gehörte er dem Lehrkörper der University of Kansas als Band-Director und Professor an. Mehr als einhundert Kompositionen, Buchveröffentlichungen, Schallplattenaufnahmen und Reisen als Gastdirigent und Vortragender kennzeichnen die umfangreiche Tätigkeit Fosters.
