The Limpid Stream / Swetly rutschei (Der helle Bach), op. 39, war bei weitem das beliebteste der Schostakowitsch-Ballette. Mit seinen bewusst einfach gehaltenen Melodien, banalen Harmonien, geradlinigen Rhythmen und grellen Farben wurde das Werk von Juni 1935 bis Februar 1936 sowohl in Leningrad als auch in Moskau erfolgreich aufgeführt. Zweitens wurden The Limpid Stream und, in der Folge, seine Suite Anfang Februar 1936 in einem Leitartikel in der Prawda verurteilt und beide Werke zurückgezogen. Schostakowitsch rettete einen Teil der Musik aus dem Ballett und der Suite der ersten vier Ballettsuiten, die er und sein Freund Levon Atowmyan 1949-1953 zusammengestellt hatten. Der 'Galop' wurde zum sechsten Satz der Ballettsuite Nr. 3.

Its deliberately simple-minded melodies, banal harmonies, straightforward rhythms, and garish colors had the work playing successfully in both Leningrad and Moscow from June 1935 through February 1936. In the second place, The Limpid Stream and, by implication, its suite were condemned in Pravda in an editorial in early February 1936, and both works were withdrawn. Shostakovich salvaged some of the music from the ballet and the suite in the first four Ballet Suites he and his friend Levon Atovmyan compiled in 1949 - 1953. The 'Galop' became the sixth movement of the Ballet Suite No.3.
