Bergh is regarded as the great humorist in Norwegian music. A fugue for fun is music in this context. [NO]Sverre Bergh var en musikalsk gledesspreder både som utøver og komponist. På utallige oppdrag forsynte han radio, film og teater med musikalsk brukskunst av høy kvalitet, bl.a. to operetter og en fjernsynsopera, men han laget også seriøs kammermusikk og musikk som har funnet sin plass i kirken. Bergh er norsk musikks store humorist. Ofte inspirert av samtidsfenomener hadde han en sjelden evne til å more sitt publikum med vittige musikalske innfall. Kontrapunkt i Grukkedalen er nettopp et slikt stykke. Stykket er skrevet midt under 2. Verdenskrig og bruken av synkoper og sløye jazzlinjer er nok en kommentar til okkupasjonsmaktens syn på korrekt musikk.
