Gary Ziek ist Direktor der Bands und Professor für Trompete an der Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. Er promovierte 1986 an der Michigan State University im Fach Blasorchesterleitung und an der Indiana University of Pennsylvania im Fach Trompetendirigieren (Master of Arts). Dr. Ziek spielt und dirigiert gerne eine breite Palette von Musik, die von der Klassik bis zum Jazz reicht. Er ist sowohl als Arrangeur als auch als Komponist tätig.
