The Walls of Monção ist ein programmatisches und ausdrucksstarkes Werk, inspiriert von den Legenden und den Menschen von Monção, Portugal, deren Geschichten durch die Zeit widerhallen. Die musikalische Gestaltung entfaltet sich erzählerisch und wechselt zwischen Momenten großer Intensität und martialischem Charakter sowie lyrischen und kontemplativen Abschnitten.Im Verlauf des Werkes erforschen Harmonik und Klangtexturen Kontraste in Dynamik, instrumentaler Farbgebung und thematischer Entwicklung und erzeugen so eine epische, filmische Atmosphäre. Die Komposition folgt einer progressiven Struktur, die in einem grandiosen Finale kulminiert und die symbolische sowie historische Stärke des zugrunde liegenden Themas hervorhebt.
