Ferdinand Hérold (1791 -1833) war ein französischer Opernkomponist elsässischer Abstammung, der auch zahlreiche Stücke für Klavier, Orchester und Ballett schrieb. Heutzutage ist er vor allem für das Ballett 'La Fille mal Gardée' bekannt. Die ansprechende Einfachheit und die naive Vertrautheit der Handlung dieses Balletts haben ihm eine Popularität verliehen, die es in das Repertoire vieler Ballettkompanien in der ganzen Welt gebracht hat. Der 'Holzschuhtanz' ist zum berühmtesten musikalischen Teil des Balletts geworden, bei dem Holzklötze die Holzschuhe imitieren.

Ferdinand Hérold (1791 -1833) was a French operatic composer of Alsatian descent who also wrote many pieces for piano, orchestra, and the ballet. Nowadays he is best known for the ballet 'La Fille mal Gardée. The appealing simplicity and the naïve familiarity of the action of 'this ballet have lent it a popularity that has established it in the repertory of many ballet companies all over the world. The 'Clog Dance' has become the most famous musical part from the ballet with woodblocks imitating the clogs.
