Der französische Komponist und Orgelist Michel Richard de Lalande (Paris, 1657 Versailles, 1726), ein Zeitgenosse von Jean-Baptiste Lully, war Musiklehrer der Töchter des Königs Ludwig XIV und wurde zum offiziellen Hofkomponisten und Hofkapellmeister (Maître et compositeur de la chapelle royale, surintendant et compositeur de la musique de la chambre) ernannt. Seine Musik war eine harmonische Synthese der französischen und italienischen Stile. Er komponierte hauptsächlich Ballette und Kirchenmusik.
